Happy 30th Birthday, Mike Posner!

Happy Birthday, Mike Posner: Singer recalls being “born in Detroit on a very, very, very, very, very, very, very cold day” 30 years ago

Mike Posner’s latest album is called I was born in Detroit on a very, very, very, very, very, very, very cold day. Today, February 12, just happens to mark the 30th anniversary of that day, which was indeed very cold: 16 degrees, to be exact. The birthday boy tells ABC Radio that he chose that album title because the story of his arrival into the world is very special to him.

“My mom will tell me the story of that day. I love that story, I don’t know why, since I was a little kid,” the “I Took a Pill in Ibiza” singer tells ABC Radio. “I’ll still, to this day, on my birthday, if she’ll play with me, ask her to tell me that story. It’s like a bedtime story, y’know?”

So how cold was it? Mike doesn’t know exactly but he says, “My sister’s six-and-a-half years older than me, and she was home ’cause of how much it snowed.” But he notes that it didn’t stop his dad from venturing out, even though he knew that baby Mike could arrive any moment.

“My dad went to work, he’s an attorney,” Mike says. “And he told the judge at the beginning at the case, ‘Just a heads up, I may get a call, I may have to leave’ and the judge said, ‘Case adjourned, go home.’ And I’ve met that judge — they’re, like, friends now.”

After a series of other incidents, including his parents’ car getting stuck in the snow, Mike was born and went on to become a Grammy-nominated, chart-topping, platinum-selling artist who’s now branched out into poetry. So, happy 30th birthday, Mike — here’s hoping your mom will tell you your favorite story today.
