Mike Posner & The Legendary Mike Posner Band - I was born in detroit on a very, very, very, very, very, very, very cold day

MIKE POSNER’s i was born in detroit on a very…cold day, First Album of His Original Poetry Recorded Live

Grammy®-nominated Detroit native singer-songwriter and producer Mike Posner, whose career-defining “I Took A Pill In Ibiza” continues its run as one of the Top 10 streamed songs of all time, releases his first spoken word album of original poetry, i was born in detroit on a very very very very very very very cold day, today. The album consists entirely of poems recorded live, June through September 2016, during Mike’s North American Honda Civic Tour: Future Now with fellow Island artists Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas.

Mike’s fans around the world have long been accustomed to the poetry interludes featured in his live shows. As Mike writes, “In the summer of 2016, my band and I played 66 shows on three continents. In a vain attempt to impress my bandmates, I performed a new poem each night. I would write the poem either immediately after the show, before or right before we went on stage, or sometimes on the stage itself. These are just a few of those poems selected intuitively. In addition, I think it’s very important [to know] that i was born in detroit on a very, very, very, very, very, very, very cold day.”

i was born in detroit on a very, very, very, very, very, very, very cold day follows up Tear Drops and Balloons (Youniverse Publishing), Mike’s first hardcover poetry collection published March 2017. As noted at the time, the book “comes as a breath of fresh air in a time otherwise polluted with catchphrases, ‘ism’s’, and cheap quotes that have slowly permeated what used to be a poetic expression. Fearlessly, Posner cuts quickly to the bone, speaks from the gut, and offers his perspective on the world. By holding nothing back and showing no mercy in his words, he has created a body of work that showcases his ability to open his own wounds and show us what lies within.”

The new album is Mike’s first long-player since the release of At Night, Alone. in May 2016, featuring the global multi-platinum hit “I Took A Pill In Ibiza),” now over 1.5 billion global streams, over 12 million adjusted single sales worldwide, and more than 930 million combined views of its quirky video at YouTube. In support of At Night, Alone., Mike joined fellow Island artists Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas on the North American Honda Civic Tour: Future Now, June through September 2016. Mike took to the road again in April-May 2017, for his first headlining U.S. tour. Last year, in addition to collaborating with singer-rapper blackbear on the Mansionz album project, Mike launched his own 10-episode podcast entitled “What Does This All Mean?” discussing a range of topics from his life and his journey. “What Does This All Mean” has included 1-on-1 discussions with Deepak Chopra, Sharon Salzberg, Shep Gordon, and Dr. Mark Anthony Neal.

Finally….the album is finally here. Each night I did a new poem that I would never do again— the legendary Mike Posner would make up the music on the spot and we have it all recorded. Couldn’t be more proud to lead that band.
At the beginning, I told the boys to look around at each other
The men to your left and right will soon become your brothers
And I don’t mean to brag, but I was right
Our lives went back to normal, we celebrate tonight
Here’s to 66 shows in three continents in three months
We played our hearts out each night never half-assed it once

Here’s to the roadies and the riggers who built the stage everyday
And when we’re done looking cool in about two hours they’ll pack it up and take it away
Here’s To Cain and Bottrell and Andre and to Zack
For getting the sound right in the house and in my pack

Here’s To rob Dugan and Chatigny, his farewell tour
Road takes its toll on some I hope he finds what he’s looking for

Here’s to the songs, where’d they come from who knows?
Here’s to the groupies That made us feel loved after shows

Here’s to the audience this summer we’ve played for 512,000 Fans
And most of all here’s to the legendary Mike Posner Band

Here’s to James Nate Kevin Ben on the keys
And the immaculate the infallible Jacob Scesney I am Babe Ruth, I am calling my shot
I won’t put this microphone down until I’m looking down from the top
I will not stop
I will not stop
I will not stop
I will not stop until I’m looking down from the top
Its true things could go wrong my next album might not hit
I could get too into the drugs it could all fall to shit
But u know I don’t think so I got a real good feeling, well see u all next year
Here’s to the future, now…here’s to us… cheers

The Legendary Mike Posner band crystallized on one of my first live recordings to be released, “i was born in detroit in a very, very, very, very, very, very, very cold day.” Out now!
Mike Posner

Summer 2016, The Legendary Mike Posner Band and I played 66 shows, in three months, on three continents. Many of you were at these shows. I found myself living in the back of a tour bus again. My popularity reached record heights at the same time my Dad was dying in Detroit from a glioblastoma multiforme. The 2016 election was just starting to heat up and there were videos of police killing black people all over the news.

My sister and I took turns being in Detroit with our parents. While I was home she worked. When she was home I toured.

Meanwhile, while on tour, I took on a ridiculous task of writing and performing a new poem each night. The Legendary Mike Posner Band never heard these poems until we were on the stage. In other words, they were totally unrehearsed.

These are those performances, on those nights, in those cities, from our hearts.

i was born in detroit on a very, very, very, very, very, very, very cold day.

I’m in NYC for studio session around the Grammy’s and I find myself facing different challenges. As I listen to these recordings, they’ve served as a comfort, a reminder of what really matters. I hope they do the same for you.

Just wanted to share. I love you,

Mike Posner
