Interview by Carissa Rossi.
“Mike Posner or as I used to call him “A Man On a Mission,” filled Dirty Laces in on his first European tour experience, upcoming album, project with Big Sean, and more….
If you don’t know Posner’s come-up story now you will because it’s most dope and unique. Posner went from making beats when he was 13-years-old, being a college student at Duke University, to having his music spread all over the internet, most wanted college performer, and finally to international recording artist. In my opinion, I think Posner is one of the first artist’s that benefited from the usage of social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube to get “one foot in the door.” Not to mention his second mixtape could have been an album!”
Dirty Laces: You just finished the end of your European tour with Cleveland’s DJ E-V and the Good Vibrations tour in Australia, what was your favorite show? How did it feel knowing you have fans half-way around the world?
Mike Posner: It’s a tie between Amsterdam and Sydney. It absolutely blew my mind to see people on the other side of the world singing the words to songs that I wrote in my dorm room at Duke.
DL: What was the biggest difference between performing in Europe and the U.S.?
Posner: At a lot of the European shows the people don’t speak any English. This makes it even weirder and crazier that they like my music. I don’t get it!
DL: On your upcoming album are you working with any new producers?
Posner: I’ve been producing a lot of my records myself lately. People forget that I was making dope ass beats BEFORE I was singing .
DL: What can we expect from your upcoming album and how is it different from anything else you’ve put out?
Posner: Since the last record I’ve gotten exponentially better at producing, writing, and singing. It’s the best material yet.
DL: When do you think you’re going to drop this new album?
Posner: Not sure. I’m working on a project with Big Sean as well that will probably drop before the album.
DL: Finally, in just the past year your fame has grown is it everything you expected (Big Sean voice) lol?
Posner: I have the best job in the world (and I use the word “job” loosely). I’m incredibly grateful the people that support my music. I owe everything to you.
