MTV and Mike Posner are looking for singers to submit their cover of “I Took A Pill In Ibiza” for Cover Of The Month, a new program launching on August 28. After all submissions are uploaded to YouTube and entered into the program’s online platform, it’s up to Mike Posner to pick a winner, and that new artist will have the chance to see their work shown on MTV in between commercials, at the beginning of shows, and so on.
MTV International is launching a new competition, inviting fans to make like Justin Bieber or Shawn Mendes and sing their hearts out to covers of their favorite hits for a chance to spotlight their vocals on-air.
To kick off the MTV Cover of the Month showdown, which will span across 120-plus international markets, the music network is looking for cover stars to belt out singer Mike Posner’s No. 1 pop song “I Took a Bill in Ibiza,” the follow-up to his 2010 debut hit “Cooler Than Me.”
“I’m all about anything that supports creativity and self-expression,” Posner said in a release. “So to kick off Cover of the Month, I challenge you all to submit your cover of ‘I Took a Pill in Ibiza’ and I’ll pick my favorite, announce it on MTV myself. Can’t wait to see your takes on it.”
Bruce Gillmer, executive vice president of talent and music programming for MTV International, also tells Billboard, “MTV Cover Of The Month celebrates the biggest current hits in a very fresh and unique way by turning our platforms over to the audience and showcasing their incredible talent. Cover Of The Month is a prime example of MTV’s ability to connect fans with their favorite artists through amazing experiences.”
