Here’s more information about who was all behind the writing & production of Justin Bieber’s upcoming new single “Boyfriend.” Mike Posner and Mat “Blackbear” Musto co-wrote the song with Justin, and Mike and 21 year-old multi-platinum music producer Mason “MdL” Levy co-produced.
Producer Mason “MdL” Levy has worked with Justin and Mike before on:
- Justin Bieber “Down to Earth”
- Mike Posner “Looks Like Sex”
MPH’s thoughts:
“Boyfriend” is believed to be the same song that Mike previewed, with his vocals only, to his fans at a listening party, HOT 103.5′s One Night Stand with Mike Posner, on January 30 in Sacramento, CA. MPH got an inside scoop from a fan that attended the event. She shared with MPH some details on the brand new music that they got a sneak peek at hearing first that Mike had already recorded.
My insider had this to say:
“Boyfriend” is a nice surprise from Mike. The chorus is him rapping about all the things he would do if he was your boyfriend. It’s definitely for the grown and sexy.
So, I believe that Mike and his team had already written and produced the song, and Mike intended to keep it for himself for his album Sky High. Mike was in the studio with Justin back on February 1. So, I’m assuming Mike thought the song was a great choice for Justin Bieber, and he played it for him and Justin loved it and wanted it for his upcoming album Believe. Justin did say he co-wrote it, so that means he made some changes to the lyrics to fit him better, etc.
