Mike Posner ‘Won’t Pull a Lauryn Hill’ with His Next Album
“Cooler Than Me” singer will tour with Ke$ha in August.
Billboard.com: Pop singer-songwriter Mike Posner has spent the past year and change producing and writing for other artists, but the 25-year-old has returned with a new solo single, “The Way It Used To Be”, that prefaces his upcoming ‘Pages’ album.
Co-written by Posner and produced by Martin Johnson and Ammo, “The Way It Used To Be” is the most wistful entry in Posner’s catalog of singles, as the singer pines for the girl that got away. “Even stars may fade and colors turn to gray/I miss yesterday… and the way it used to be,” Posner croons with aw-shucks charm before a chorus of “Whoa-oh-ohs” backs up his sentiment.
“Cooler Than Me” peaked at No. 6 on the Hot 100 chart in 2010, and Posner’s debut album ‘31 Minutes To Takeoff’ went on to sell 173,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. In November 2011, Posner released the single “Looks Like Sex”, from a sophomore album titled ‘Sky High’ that never materialized.
Since then, Posner has found hits as a producer and songwriter, having a hand on Justin Bieber’s “Boyfriend” single last year and serving as a writer on Labrinth’s Hot 100 hit “Beneath Your Beautiful”. He also appeared as a guest vocalist on Cris Cab’s track “Colors”.
‘Pages’ will be released this fall on RCA Records, but in the meantime, Posner has been slotted as an opening act on label mate Ke$ha’s ‘Warrior Tour’, kicking off Aug. 9 in Cleveland and running through Aug. 31.
