Mansionz’s ‘Mansionz’ 8th Anniversary

Today marks the 8th anniversary of the release of Mansionz, the self-titled debut album from the dynamic duo Mansionz, composed of Mike Posner and blackbear. Released on March 24, 2017, the album showcased a unique blend of hip-hop, R&B, and pop with emotive and genre-blending influences, solidifying the duo’s place in the music world.
The Birth of Mansionz
Mansionz was formed in late 2016 by longtime collaborators Mike Posner and Matthew Musto, known professionally as blackbear. Prior to forming the group, the two artists had already worked together on notable tracks, including Big Time Rush’s 2011 single “Windows Down” and Justin Bieber’s 2012 hit “Boyfriend.”
On December 9, 2016, the duo made their debut under the Mansionz moniker with their first single, “STFU,” featuring Spark Master Tape. This track set the tone for the album’s eclectic and often bold style.
The Album & Promotion
Leading up to the release of their album, Mansionz kept fans intrigued with teaser videos titled “intro to mansionz part 1” and “intro to mansionz part 2” in January 2017. They followed up with two singles: “Rich White Girls“ (February 3, 2017) and “Dennis Rodman“ (March 17, 2017), further building anticipation.
To promote the album, Mike Posner and blackbear made a striking appearance at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards, both sporting lime-green hair—a bold visual statement that became synonymous with the Mansionz era.
Notable Collaborations
The album featured an impressive lineup of guest appearances, including G-Eazy, CyHi The Prynce, Snoozegod, Soren Bryce, Spark Master Tape, and even NBA legend Dennis Rodman. With its mix of humor, introspection, and genre-bending production, Mansionz received generally positive reviews, with many praising its creativity and unique blend of styles.
Music Videos & Live Performances
Shortly after the album’s release, Mansionz dropped an official music video for “Rich White Girls” on March 29, 2017, starring Amanda Crew and Meredith Hagner. This was followed by a video for “Dennis Rodman” on May 19, 2017.
Mansionz also surprised fans with their first live performance during blackbear’s Digital Drug Tour in Detroit in June 2017, where Posner made a guest appearance, and they performed several tracks together. Their collaboration continued into 2018, when they officially performed as Mansionz at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado, delivering renditions of “My Beloved,” “Dennis Rodman,” and “STFU.”
A Lasting Impact
Eight years later, Mansionz remains a standout project that captured the creative chemistry between Mike Posner and blackbear. I personally love the entire album and always listen to it from start to finish—no skips! Some of my top favorite tracks include “My Beloved,” “STFU” (feat. Spark Master Tape), “Nobody Knows” (feat. Soren Bryce), “A Million Miles,” and “Rich White Girls.” Whether revisiting the album’s bold lyricism or its genre-fusing sound, Mansionz continues to hold a special place for fans of both artists.
