Mike Posner Announces New Single “I Went Back To Ibiza” – Out March 6

Twelve years after writing one of the most defining songs of his career, Mike Posner is officially returning to Ibiza — but this time, everything is different.

Mike has announced his brand new single, “I Went Back To Ibiza,” arriving this Friday, March 6, 2026. The song is a complete lyrical rewrite of his 2015 hit I Took a Pill in Ibiza,” and pre-save is available now on all major streaming platforms.

Originally released on April 14, 2015 (with the iconic “I Took a Pill in Ibiza (SeeB Remix)” following on July 24, 2015), the song captured a brutally honest snapshot of fame, insecurity, and self-destruction. What started as a stripped-down acoustic confession eventually became a global dance anthem — but at its core, it was always deeply personal.

Now, over a decade later, Mike is reclaiming that story.

A New Perspective — 12 Years Later

Over the past couple of months, Mike has been performing the updated version live at various events, sharing clips of the reworked lyrics — and even teasing the full studio version on social media. Fans immediately connected with the emotional weight of the new opening lines:

“But now I’m twelve years older and I’m ten years sober
And Avicii isn’t here no more…”

The reference to Avicii hits especially hard, bringing the story full circle in a way that feels reflective rather than reckless.

In his February 27 announcement, Mike shared that when he looks back at the original lyrics, he feels proud knowing that none of them are true anymore. He describes this new version as the soundtrack to his personal transformation — rooted in sobriety, faith, gratitude, and choosing a different life.

From Disillusionment to Devotion

Where the original song documented emptiness and chasing validation, “I Went Back To Ibiza” is about surrender, growth, and purpose.

Lines like:

“Now I really wanna shine my light…
I think I’m gonna give my life up to God…”

show a man who has survived the chaos he once sang about — and is intentionally walking another path.

Even the chorus shifts the energy entirely:

“All I know are love songs…”

It’s no longer about proving anything. It’s about living differently.

The Inspiration + Live Performance

I’ve shared the full lyrics to “I Went Back To Ibiza” below, along with Mike’s video where he opens up about the inspiration behind rewriting the song. In the clip, he credits his fiancée, Alli Schaper, for encouraging him to revisit the lyrics and update the story to reflect who he is today. The post also features the full studio audio of the new version.

Below that, you’ll find a separate video of Mike Posner performing the song live two months ago, giving fans an early look at the updated lyrics before its official release.

I’ve also included a third clip where Mike presents the song’s lyrics on paper, flipping through each page as the track plays in the background. While it’s just a snippet of the beginning and not the full song, it feels like an intimate, stripped-down moment — offering another glimpse into this new chapter of “I Went Back To Ibiza.”

Hearing him explain why he chose to rewrite the song, seeing him perform it live, and watching the lyrics laid out page by page makes the transformation feel even more real.

“I Went Back To Ibiza” drops everywhere this Friday, March 6. Pre-save now and get ready.

(Verse 1)
I went back to Ibiza
And got a hotel by the shore
But now I’m twelve years older and I’m ten years sober
And Avicii isn’t here no more
I moved outta L.A.
I’m tryna start a little family
‘Cause all the things I was taking and decisions I was making
Had me headed towards tragedy

(Pre-Chorus)
But now I really wanna live my life
Now I really wanna shine my light
You know I just wanna give what I got to the world and then go back home
‘Cause I only get this one life
So I think I’m gonna give my life up to God
‘Cause he’s got me back onstage singing
Got mе back onstage singing

(Chorus)
All I know are love songs, love songs
Darling, all I know are love songs, love songs

(Verse 2)
I’m just a human
I’m trying to do what’s true to me
But the fame and the money and the ghost of my twenties
Try to make me who I used to be
But God’s got my back, yeah
So every time I feel fear
I give thanks I’m alive, almost died two times
There’s a reason that I’m still right here

(Pre-Chorus)
You know I just wanna live my life
Now I really wanna shine my light
You know I just wanna give what I got to the world and then go back home
‘Cause I only get this one life
So I think I’m gonna give my life up to God
‘Cause he’s got me back onstage singing
Got me back onstage singing

(Chorus)
All I know are love songs, love songs
Darling, all I know are love songs, love songs (Hey)

(Instrumental)

(Chorus)
All I know are love songs, love songs
Darling, all I know are love songs, love songs
