Mike Posner Creates Inspiring Song with Make-A-Wish Cancer Survivor
Mike Posner is known for his heartfelt music and meaningful projects, but his latest collaboration might just be his most touching yet. Through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Mike teamed up with 15-year-old Angela, an aspiring songwriter and bone cancer survivor, to create and record a song that reflects her courage and determination.
Angela’s journey began with a persistent pain in her leg that led to a shocking diagnosis of bone cancer. She bravely faced treatment, which included chemotherapy and physical therapy.
During this challenging time, Angela’s love for music became a vital source of comfort. “Music has helped me in numerous ways, but I think the most important way it has helped me is of how it acts as a way to get a heavy feeling off of my chest. To vent my frustrations and to help me remember the good things to look forward to. This was especially true during treatment as it acted as a distraction from the physical pain and suffering, I was in, it helped me get through really tough times,” Angela shared.
When the time came to make her wish, Angela chose to write and record her own song. Make-A-Wish connected Angela with Mike Posner and his team, who worked with her to write and record her song, “It’s Okay to Cry,” at a recording studio.
Rather than investing in a music video for his recent release “Beautiful Day,” Mike chose to channel those resources into granting Angela’s wish. Together, they poured their hearts into writing and recording an inspiring song, captured in a heartwarming video showing Angela and Mike collaborating in the studio.
Angela, who is now in remission, has dedicated herself to giving back to her community. She advocates for cancer patients and hopes to continue producing music, donating the proceeds to Make-A-Wish and other organizations supporting cancer research and uplifting those in need.
Reflecting on her experience, Angela shared, “My wish was magical and one of my happiest memories. It truly was a dream come true and brought me further hope for a brighter future despite my physical limitations. It felt surreal and even now I still feel like it was something that could have never happened to me. I’m so grateful for the opportunity, as I could have never done it without Make-A-Wish or Mike Posner and his team for making my wish possible.”
Mike also reflected on the experience: “I connected with Angela. She’s a 15-year-old aspiring songwriter who was diagnosed with bone cancer in eighth grade. She met me at the studio and shared her story. Then we made a beautiful and inspiring song together. In truth, SHE made the song — I just coached. I am so grateful to have met and created with Angela. She’s an amazing person and an inspiration for all of us.”
This project highlights not only Angela’s strength but also the importance of supporting organizations like Make-A-Wish, which bring joy and inspiration to children facing serious illnesses.
