WZMX Hot 93.7: Mike Posner has been taking some downtime over the past few years, but now he’s back with a new song, an upcoming album and a new more spiritual outlook on life. He spoke all about it with Jenny Boom Boom at the GRAMMYs.
After the release of his smash hit “Cooler Than Me,” Mike Posner felt like he was living a dream come true. “I had these dreams that came true, like a record deal and a platinum record. It was crazy, but I looked at my life and I wasn’t any happier,” he recalled. “I started to think about my purpose and big questions like that. I was sort of lost for a while, until I heard this quote from the Dalai Lama and he said ‘figure out where your talent fits in to make the world a better place.’ I was thinking, where does my talent fit in – all I’m good at is music?”
Of all things, it was a nasty veggie sandwich that finally gave Posner his answer. “I got this sandwich, and I didn’t know it was gonna change my life, but it did – I bit into it, and I had this crazy idea to make an album, and for every album I sold, to serve a meal to someone in need,” he explained. “It was just an idea – I didn’t know how to do it, just that I had to do it. So I ended up sitting down with the food bank for NYC and they teamed up for me, and then I had to go make the album.”
That album is the upcoming Pages, and the first single “Top of the World” features Big Sean, an artist who has helped Mike Posner find his spirituality. “I wasn’t a spiritual person in my whole life, until Big Sean schooled me,” Posner recalled. “I was in the studio one day, and there was an energy about him, and I’ve known him for a long time, before both of us were signed. You know, when you’re around somebody you just feel good.”
Sean gave Posner some books, which changed his life, and led him down a new, happier path in life. And with Pages – which will also feature 2 Chainz and Justin Bieber – Posner is paying forward his new found positivity.
