✨ Happy 6th Anniversary, Keep Going! ✨
Six years ago today (October 9, 2019), Mike Posner released his fifth mixtape, Keep Going — a deeply introspective project that arrived at a turning point in his life and career. Recorded before his Walk Across America, the mixtape became a source of motivation and reflection that carried him through his 3,000-mile journey from Asbury Park, New Jersey, to Venice Beach, California.
Like his previous albums, Keep Going opens with a humble request for listeners to play it from start to finish without distractions — and for good reason. The 16-track mixtape flows as a continuous, emotional journey, with songs that blend into one another and spoken-word interludes from Steven Tyler, E-40, Uncle Bun, and Mike’s mom guiding listeners along the way. Through collaborations with Logic, Talib Kweli, Ty Dolla $ign, Wiz Khalifa, and Elohim, Mike offers a mix of reflection and momentum, pairing lyrical honesty with inspiration.
While Keep Going includes upbeat moments like “Prince Akeem” (feat. Wiz Khalifa), most of the mixtape is rooted in self-discovery and emotional honesty. Tracks such as “Amen” and “A Lonely Night in Mexico Thinking About Big Sean and Avicii” stand out for their rawness and humanity — encouraging listeners to wake up to life’s deeper purpose rather than sleepwalk through it.
Several songs from Keep Going came to life through music videos filmed during Mike’s 2019 Walk Across America, including “Look What I’ve Become” (feat. Ty Dolla $ign), “Prince Akeem” (feat. Wiz Khalifa), “Slow It Down,” “Nothing Is Wrong,” and “Legacy” (with Talib Kweli). These visuals capture his real-life moments on the road, blending art and experience into something uniquely inspiring.
To mark the 6th anniversary, stream Keep Going and revisit its music videos — a reminder of how far Mike’s journey has come, both personally and artistically. Some of my favorite tracks from the mixtape are “Noah’s Ark,” “Fun Up Here” (feat. Logic), “God’s Lottery” (feat. Elohim), and “Look What I’ve Become” (feat. Ty Dolla $ign). Each song offers its own spark of insight and emotion, continuing to motivate me — and so many others — to, just like the title says, keep going.
