Mike Posner was the musical guest on Conan this past Wednesday to perform “I Took A Pill In Ibiza” with only his acoustic guitar and a string orchestra. His performance was very emotional as he changed up the lyrics in the song to sing about his father being diagnosed with cancer.
My support, prayers, and good thoughts go out to Jon and the entire Posner family during this time.
Mike Posner is making his rounds on the late-night television circuit, and his performance of hit single “I Took A Pill In Ibiza” on Conan last night (May 11) was his most poignant (and revealing) yet.
Backed by a string orchestra, Posner kicked things off with his acoustic guitar as per usual. Although this time around, the 28-year-old crooner changed up the lyrics a little bit. “I took a pill in the dressing room,” he sang. “‘Cuz I was nervous to play for you. But when I finally got sober, I’ll be 10 years older. Oh, screw it, it was somethin’ to do.”
And it gets more gut-wrenching from there. By the end of the song, he also sings about his father.
“And my dad has cancer. I’m still wrapping my head around that,” he crooned. “Sat by the hospital bed, nurses poked in their head and asked me to sign autographs. Man, my dad has cancer. I shouldn’t be here; I should be home. But in case you couldn’t tell, I’m too busy playing myself in this little Mike Posner show.”

Side note: Back on April 14, Mike first broke the news about his father’s brain cancer diagnosis with the audience at the show he was performing at in Myrtle Beach, SC. I came across the video about 2 weeks later, and I never got around to sharing it on the site. Click here to watch the video to hear what he had to say!
