On May 6, 2016, Mike Posner gave us an album that felt like a diary — raw, poetic, and vulnerable in the best way. At Night, Alone. marked a huge turning point in his career, showing the world a deeper, more introspective side of Mike. Today, we’re celebrating 9 years of this unforgettable album that still resonates with so many of us.

At Night, Alone. is Mike’s second studio album, released through Island Records. It features 18 tracks (20 on the expanded edition) and includes collaborations with Labrinth and Big Sean. Mike wrote and co-produced every track, teaming up with a talented group of creators including Adam Friedman, Ely Rise, Martin Terefe, MdL, Robopop, and others. The album debuted at number twelve on the Billboard 200 and marked a bold return to form — but with a sound and message that felt completely fresh.

One of the standout moments of this era was the release of “I Took A Pill In Ibiza (Seeb Remix),” which became a global hit and introduced millions to a more honest version of Mike Posner. On February 1, 2021, the single was certified 6x Platinum by the RIAA. “Be As You Are” was released as a promotional single in the U.S. on July 26, 2016, and “In the Arms of a Stranger (Grey Remix)” followed as another promo release on February 17, 2017.

In 2016, Mike was honored with the Pandora Trendsetter Award at the City of Hope’s 12th Annual Songs of Hope. Then in 2017, “I Took A Pill In Ibiza” won Most Performed Song at the ASCAP Pop Music Awards.

The song and its remix also earned several major award nominations. “I Took A Pill In Ibiza (Seeb Remix)” was nominated for Best Electronic Video at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards and Best Song at the 2016 MTV Europe Music Awards. At the 2017 iHeartRadio Music Awards, the remix received nominations for Best Music Video and Dance Song of the Year. It was also nominated for Song of the Year at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards.

The music videos from this era captured the emotional weight and honesty of the songs. “I Took A Pill In Ibiza (Seeb Remix)” stood out with its visually ironic take on fame and identity, while “Be As You Are” told a heartfelt story that resonated deeply with fans. “Be As You Are (Jordan XL Remix)” and “In the Arms of a Stranger (Grey Remix)” were also given compelling video treatments that added to the reflective tone of the album.
