Mike Posner – At Night, Alone Album 10th Anniversary

Celebrating 10 Years of At Night, Alone. 🎧✨

On May 6, 2016, Mike Posner gave us an album that felt like a diary — raw, poetic, and vulnerable in the best way. At Night, Alone marked a defining turning point in his career, revealing a deeper, more introspective side of Mike that so many of us connected with instantly — and still do today. Now, here we are celebrating 10 years of an album that continues to hit just as hard.

At Night, Alone is Mike’s second studio album, released through Island Records. It features 18 tracks (20 on the expanded edition) and includes collaborations with Labrinth and Big Sean. Mike wrote and co-produced every track, working alongside Adam Friedman, Ely Rise, Martin Terefe, MdL, Robopop, and others — and you can really feel that hands-on approach in how personal and cohesive the album sounds. It debuted at number twelve on the Billboard 200, proving that something this honest and introspective could still reach a wide audience in a big way.

Before the album fully took shape, Mike gave us an early glimpse into this era with The Truth EP, released June 22, 2015. It featured I Took A Pill In Ibiza,” “Buried In Detroit,” “Not That Simple,” and Be As You Are — songs that would later become core pieces of At Night, Alone. Looking back, it really feels like the first chapter of the entire era, long before we knew how big it would become.

Later that year, he expanded on that sound with The Truth Remixes, released December 18, 2015. The project included “I Took A Pill In Ibiza (Seeb Remix),” “Not That Simple (Kyle Tree Remix),” and “Be As You Are (Jordan XL Remix)” — an early glimpse of the direction that would soon define At Night, Alone in a much bigger way.

One of the defining moments — and for many fans, the entry point into this album — was “I Took A Pill In Ibiza (Seeb Remix),” which became a global hit and introduced millions to a more unfiltered version of Mike Posner. On February 1, 2021, the single was certified 6x Platinum by the RIAA. “Be As You Are” followed as a promotional single in the U.S. on July 26, 2016, with “In the Arms of a Stranger (Grey Remix)” arriving on February 17, 2017 — both continuing the album’s deeply reflective tone.

During this era, Mike was honored with the Pandora Trendsetter Award at the City of Hope’s 12th Annual Songs of Hope in 2016. In 2017, “I Took A Pill In Ibiza” went on to win Most Performed Song at the ASCAP Pop Music Awards and earned major nominations, including Song of the Year at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards — a huge moment for a song that’s so stripped down and brutally honest.

A Visual Era Defined by Honesty & Storytelling 🎥🎬

The At Night, Alone era didn’t just give us incredible music — it gave us visuals that truly matched the emotion and message behind each song.

“Be As You Are” sets the tone with a somber but freeing visual, as people tear up negative labels and run into the ocean — with Mike ultimately joining them and letting go of his own “AFRAID” label.

“Be As You Are” lyric video reuses those visuals with handwritten-style lyrics layered in, keeping the focus on the song’s vulnerability and message of self-acceptance.

“Be As You Are (Fan Video)” brought the message even closer to home. Seeing real moments — including Mike and his sister surprising their mom — gave the song a whole new layer of meaning centered around family, love, and authenticity.

“I Took A Pill In Ibiza (Seeb Remix) (Explicit)” delivered one of the most iconic visuals of the era. The surreal, almost uncomfortable imagery of the papier-mâché version of Mike moving through a party perfectly captured the song’s message about fame, identity, and emptiness.

“I Took A Pill In Ibiza (Original)” takes the opposite approach — a simple black-and-white visual focused on the lyrics, similar in style to Bob Dylan’s “Subterranean Homesick Blues,” putting the storytelling front and center.

“Buried In Detroit (Lucas Löwe Remix) (Lyric Video) ft. Big Sean” leaned into hometown pride, pairing the lyrics with Detroit visuals that highlight the song’s loyalty-to-your-roots message — especially with Big Sean’s verse adding to that connection.

“Be As You Are (Jordan XL Remix)” music video shifted toward something more uplifting, focusing on Detroit youth chasing their passions. It’s one of those videos that quietly reinforces the album’s core message: stay true to who you are, no matter what.

“In The Arms of a Stranger – Grey Remix (Official Video)” wrapped up the era visually with live footage, capturing the energy of Mike on tour and that real connection between him and the fans, which is what this whole era ultimately comes back to.

10 Years Later… 🎵💫

A decade later, At Night, Alone still feels just as meaningful. Its themes of self-reflection, growth, and honesty continue to connect in a way that feels rare, even now. For a lot of us, this album wasn’t just something we listened to — it was something we felt during a specific time in our lives.

Whether you’ve been here since day one or discovered it along the way, this album remains one of the most personal and defining chapters in Mike Posner’s journey.

If you haven’t revisited it in a while — or even if it’s already part of your regular rotation — today’s the perfect excuse to press play and take it all in again.
