Mike Posner is ready to “Move On” by walking across the US

Mike Posner is ready to “Move On” – and he’s going to do it by walking across the entire United States.

He made the announcement in the video for his new single, “Move On,” which details his struggles since he released the hit “I Took a Pill in Ibiza” in 2015.

In the video, which features clips from over the past few years as well as typed messages from Mike, the singer talks about the emotional lows he’s taken over the past few years: His beloved dad died of brain cancer, he broke up with his girlfriend, and his pal Avicii, who he name checked in “Ibiza,” also passed away.

Mike goes on to admit he’s been sad and “feeling off,” but he’s “tired of moping around.”

As part of his plan to live life to the fullest, he’s decided to start walking across the country on March 1 – a feat that will take him about a year to complete. Why, you ask? “Cuz I want to!!!” he writes in the video.

On Twitter, he gives more detail, writing, “I’m excited to announce that starting March 1, 2019, I will be walking across America. I will start at the Atlantic Ocean and end at the Pacific ocean. The journey will take me most of my 31st year. You are welcome to join at any time. See you out there.”

“Furthermore, I will be attempting to practice deep listening on The Walk,” he continues. “What does this mean? i will be spending periods of my walk compassionately listening to people with as much of my full attention as possible. Here goes!”

“Move On” is featured on Mike’s upcoming new album,A Real Good Kid, which comes out January 18.

“Move On” Lyrics:

(Verse 1)
I wish Tracy Chapman was my friend
She would know exactly what to say
Beginnings always hide themselves in ends
At some point, I will be okay

(Pre-Chorus)
I got high when I met you
I got high to forget you
I feel pain, I don’t want to
But I have to, yeah, I have to

(Chorus)
If I want to move on, move on, move on, move on
If I want to move on, move on, move on, move on
If I want to move on (Move on), move on (Move on)
Move on (Move on), move on
If I want to move on (Move on), move on (Move on)
Move on (Move on), move on

(Verse 2)
Went to see some shaman in Malay
To hear some things I wanted to hear
Everyone just wants to feel good
Everyone just wants to disappear
Call up girls that live in my hometown
To help fill up the minutes
Lit a match and saged my house down
It didn’t make a difference

(Pre-Chorus)
So I got high when I met you
I got high to forget you
I feel pain, I don’t want to
But I have to, yeah, I have to

(Chorus)
If I want to move on, move on, move on, move on
If I want to move on, move on, move on, move on
If I want to move on (Move on), move on (Move on)
Move on (Move on), move on
I know I got to move on (Move on), move on (Move on)
Move on (Move on), move on

Sparknotes: My first official music video for @MikePosner is live. It’s happy. It’s sad. It’s vertical for your phone. I would love if you watched it 🙂 // Full: I started listening to Mike in high school thanks to a Hot New Hip Hop tip from @TaylorDavis2014. He was our favorite “best kept secret” of an artist. Mike was self-funding a Ninja show tour (free acoustic shows throughout the country) and asked for healthy foods in exchange for playing music, so naturally when he came to Austin @Kelly.zlatic and I brought cookies. // After the show we heard Mike’s opener @adamfriedmanmusic talking about surfing, and I think the first thing I ever said to him was something like, “Brooooo yur from Cali?? Do you even shred?!” Somehow they invited us to dinner post-show, we made this little proposal video with their music, Adam later asked me to make vids on their next tour, eventually sang at our wedding, and I can call him a great friend. // Fast forward, Mike and I got to hole up in an LA hotel for 3 days during Halloween and tell the story of the last couple years of his life. He’s incredibly authentic and trusting (when he was hyped for my proposal video, had met me once, he just straight up gave me his Instagram login and said “Share it!!”). He wanted a relatable, not over-produced way to share his rise to fame, series of lows, dad and Avicii passing, and how he’s moving on. We made the choice to incorporate home footage in a vertical video format (one of the first I believe for an official music video!) This week we’re back at it again editing together to announce his walk across America in March. // Moral of the story: bring cookies and make a fool of yourself to make first impressions (kidding..kind of). Pumped for the journey to come, thank you @adamfriedmanmusic @Mikeposner for putting your creative trust in me!
