Mike Posner Opens Up About His Journey to Christ and Reveals He Was Recently Baptized

Mike Posner has shared a deeply personal update with his fans, revealing that he gave his life to Christ a year ago and was recently baptized.

On August 5, Mike shared a lengthy message with his 1.4 million Instagram followers alongside a video of his baptism. In the post, he opened up about the experiences that led him toward Christianity, the books and teachings he turned to as he explored his faith, and what being a Christian means to him today.

For longtime fans, Mike’s latest reflection comes after years of openly discussing the personal changes he has experienced throughout his life and career.

“I Took a Pill in Ibiza” remains one of the defining songs of Mike Posner’s career. Originally written when Mike was 26, the song captured a period of loneliness, disillusionment and searching, and went on to become an international hit following the 2015 remix by Norwegian duo Seeb.

More than a decade later, Mike revisited that chapter of his life with “I Went Back To Ibiza,” released in March 2026. The song offers a new perspective on the story he first told in “I Took a Pill in Ibiza,” reflecting the person Mike has become today — older, sober, more grounded and focused on living a different kind of life.

Mike recently shared that he has removed “I Took a Pill in Ibiza” from his set list and now performs its follow-up instead.

“My life has transformed from a sad song into a love song,” he wrote.

Mike acknowledged that he still experiences sadness and challenges, but added, “it’s all in the service of something bigger than me. When I remember that, my life is a blessing.”

Just two days later, Mike opened up more about what that “something bigger” means to him, revealing that he had given his life to Christ a year earlier and had recently been baptized.

“A year ago, I got down on my knees and gave my life to Christ.”

Mike began his August 5 post by describing three experiences he had a year ago that he interpreted as “signals” for him to take a step toward Christ.

MIKE’S JOURNEY TO CHRIST

The first involved a friend who, according to Mike, prophesied about events in his life that Mike had never told him about. The second occurred during a small church service, where Mike said he experienced a physical sensation and a profound feeling of oneness that lasted for hours. The third involved another friend bringing up an event from Mike’s life that had happened nine months earlier — something Mike said he had been thinking about at that exact moment.

Mike wrote:

“I interpreted this signs as signals for me to take a step towards Christ.
I did so.
A year ago, I got down on my knees and gave my life to Christ.”

Interestingly, Mike said that the question of whether those experiences were truly signs from God or simply coincidence wasn’t what ultimately mattered to him.

“The veracity of these events and whether they could be pure happenstance versus ‘signs’ from God is not that interesting to me.

What is interesting is what happened afterwards.”

After making that decision, Mike said he initially wasn’t sure exactly what he believed. He described himself as going “all in,” reading the New Testament as well as works by C.S. Lewis, Mother Teresa and others.

“CS Lewis, Mother Teresa, and The New Testament (amongst others) where all devoured but still I was a little confused on what it meant to me to be a Christian.”

Mike said that some of the doctrine he encountered in church felt true to him while some did not. In recent weeks, however, he said his understanding had begun to come together.

For Mike, Christianity is ultimately about how he lives and how he treats other people.

“FOR ME; To be a Christian means to aspire with all your mind, body, and soul to live as Christ did. To forgive all other people. To treat ALL other people, especially the least among us (whether that be the poorest of the poor financially or the loneliest of the lonely) with an impossible level of compassion, grace, and most of all LOVE.”

He continued:

“It means to forgive every single person in my life including me and LOVE CHRIST BY LOVING PEOPLE.”

Mike went on to describe his faith as a way of life rather than simply a set of beliefs or doctrines, emphasizing compassion, forgiveness, goodness and listening to what he believes is God’s voice guiding him toward doing the right thing.

“It’s not just a doctrine or theology, it’s a way of life rooted in faith.”

And perhaps the simplest way Mike summed up his beliefs was:

“For me, if it isn’t causing me to LOVE MORE PEOPLE MORE FULLY, it isn’t God.”

Mike then revealed that he had recently been baptized.

“A few weeks ago I was baptized…”

Reflecting on what his faith has meant to him, he wrote:

“Christ has not made my life or my heart smaller, but much, much bigger. I’m working on developing more and more of a personal relationship with God.”

Mike also explained why he felt it was important to share something so personal with the people who have followed his career.

“Why doest this even matter? Do I think that my job as an aging pop star qualifies me to tell you what to believe? I do not.”

But, he said, keeping this part of his life hidden from his audience wouldn’t feel authentic.

“But to not share this would feel inauthentic and like I was hiding a part of myself from my audience and I am not hiding this part of my life. But I am proud of this part of my life.”

For fans who have followed Mike’s career from his earliest releases through all of the personal and professional changes he has shared along the way, this latest chapter offers another glimpse into where his life has taken him. And, as Mike explained, sharing it with his fans simply felt like the right thing to do.

MIKE’S FULL MESSAGE

A year ago, I experienced a series of Christ based synchronistic events including:

  1. a friend prophesying in Christ about my life events that I had told him nothing about.
  2. Attending a tiny church service where electricity shot up my spine and I was left with a deep feeling of Oneness that lasted for hours
  3. A friend in Christ who brought up an event in my life that happened 9 months before that I was JUST thinking about.

I interpreted this signs as signals for me to take a step towards Christ.
I did so.
A year ago, I got down on my knees and gave my life to Christ.

The veracity of these events and whether they could be pure happenstance versus “signs” from God is not that interesting to me.

What is interesting is what happened afterwards.

After getting up from my knees, I really didn’t know I now believed in.

As I tend to do, I went all in and started reading my little tale off.

CS Lewis, Mother Teresa, and The New Testament (amongst others) where all devoured but still I was a little confused on what it meant to me to be a Christian.

Some of the doctrine I heard espoused in church felt true to me and some didn’t.

But in the last few weeks, that has somewhat been filled in for me.

FOR ME; To be a Christian means to aspire with all your mind, body, and soul to live as Christ did. To forgive all other people. To treat ALL other people, especially the least among us (whether that be the poorest of the poor financially or the loneliest of the lonely) with an impossible level of compassion, grace, and most of all LOVE.

It means to forgive every single person in my life including me and LOVE CHRIST BY LOVING PEOPLE.

It means to live with an impossibly high standard of goodness towards others, so much so that I NEED God’s help to even get close.

It means listening to the little voice inside me (that I believe comes from God) that tells me to do right thing, even when I don’t feel like it.

It’s not just a doctrine or theology, it’s a way of life rooted in faith.

For me, if it isn’t causing me to LOVE MORE PEOPLE MORE FULLY, it isn’t God.

A few weeks ago I was baptized…

Christ has not made my life or my heart smaller, but much, much bigger. I’m working on developing more and more of a personal relationship with God.

Why doest this even matter? Do I think that my job as an aging pop star qualifies me to tell you what to believe? I do not.
But to not share this would feel inauthentic and like I was hiding a part of myself from my audience and I am not hiding this part of my life. But I am proud of this part of my life.
